In the Stanley family since the early 1800s, and rented whole by the week or the weekend. All the furnishings are original, the bathrooms are the genuine article, and the family that grew up here still promises you won't find a holiday home anywhere else like this.
01The bedrooms
Sleeps seven to eight, and up to eleven.
Four very spacious bedrooms. Permanent beds for seven to eight, up to eleven with three extra beds, and a cot if you bring your own bedding. The original bathrooms have been retained and are part of the charm of staying, and you can’t beat their loo for a view.
No photographs of the bedrooms are published, so none stand in.
02The sitting room
If the weather is bad and you want to stay in, you’ll find squishy sofas, a library of books, board games, and of course a warm hearth with a real fire. One October guest thanked Elaine and her team for lots of firewood for cosy evenings.

03The piano
A piano for family songs. One family’s children found practising never so much fun, and their library had books, books, books everywhere.

04The kitchen
A large double oven, a microwave, a large fridge freezer, and enough tea pots to host the largest Mad Hatter’s tea party on earth. The Lakes Catering Company can take over for a dinner party.

05The welcome
A tray on arrival laden with cakes, tea, coffee and milk, before you unpack; tea towels, washing up liquid and loo rolls provided. Muddy boots and happy dogs are welcome: a maximum of two well-behaved pets, with a hard bed, not in the bedrooms, and a lead around the free range hens.

06Outside the door
Ten cars on the gravel.
Private parking for ten; they have had a fleet of wedding cars and a boat out there on occasion, though not at the same time. Hot water, plenty of it, comes from the estate’s own wood biomass boiler in the woodyard. The house lets all year; peak times book early, and the winter months bring exceptional deals, weekend and mid-week breaks among them.
