The East Wing studios
The East Wing of the main house has been converted into a number of artist studios. The artists in residence often host small events and open studio days, and you are welcome to pop in with a view to buying their work.

Once the butler’s pantry
The Stable Yard and East Wing were the servants’ quarters: the butler’s pantry, the kitchens, the parlour and the dairy. The estate office lives there now, beside the studios; the house you rent is the whole main house to the west.

Ben Mcleod paints as a response to living, working and walking in the landscape, with thick, textured paint loosely applied. Lara Clahane hand throws decorative and functional pots in stoneware and porcelain that she hopes delight the heart, hand and eye.

The sculpture trail
Through the gardens and woodland, past work from the estate’s own artists. Danny Clahane works primarily in stone, for exhibition and commission, from his studio in Kendal.
Their own words, on the East Wing
“If you’ve ever watched Downton or Upstairs Downstairs, you can imagine the hive of activity these rooms once were.”
Nowadays the hive makes paintings, baskets and pots instead of dinner for thirty.
