Halecat sits at the head of an ancient wooded valley with wonderful views over Arnside and Morecambe Bay. The walled gardens are wild and wonderful, and open to everyone daily from nine to five.

Two permits, one tarn, friendly otters
Two fishing permits give guests exclusive access to the estate’s coarse fishery at Witherslack Hall Tarn: carp, perch, bream, roach, pike, tench and rudd, and their own warning to watch out for the friendly otters.

Out through the secret gate
Head out through the patio doors and through the secret gate in the wild and wonderful gardens, and see if you can spot the self service coffee bar hidden in the woods.

Damsons for jam, and gin
Chase butterflies, spot rare orchids and roses, or sit under a tree in the orchard and reinvent your future. In the autumn you can help gather up the damsons for jam, and gin.

The gardens have public access daily from nine to five, with few and unobtrusive visitors. Guests who want the place to themselves hang the gardens-closed sign that lives in the second drawer down in the hallway chest, and everybody understands.
